We have the greatest need for toys for children (especially girls) between the ages of 9 to 12, gift cards for teens in denominations of $25, books (especially in Spanish), and board games.

Any age-appropriate gift is fine for children 0-12. We recommend spending between $10-$25 per angel. Some suggestions are:

• 0-2: toddler and infant learning toys, interactive plush stuffed animals, board books, baby walkers, and blocks
• 3-5: dinosaur/farm animal toys, baby dolls, play food, toddler trucks, and sensory toys
• 6-8: legos, nerf guns, cars and trucks, lol dolls, unicorn themed items, learning games
• 9-11: beginner’s makeup or hair chalk, purses, legos, nerf guns, craft kits, journal kits, science kits, robots
• 12+ (Angel Teens): $25 gift card to local stores like Meijer, Walmart, Target, Sephora, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Celebration Cinema, etc.

Some counties do offer the opportunity to adopt a family. Please contact your county’s local Angel Tree contact to see if this opportunity is available where you live.

Yes! Donations can be used to support our Angel Tree campaign. You can donate here to The Salvation Army online.  You can also mail your donation to your local Salvation Army, and indicate “Angel Tree” on your check memo line. 

When you give to Angel Tree, the gift that you give will stay within your local Salvation Army Corps Community Center’s service area (typically divided by county). So, if you donate a toy to a site in Kent County, the gift will be given to a child in need in Kent County. If you donate to a site in Muskegon, then the gift will be given to a child in Muskegon, and so on.

No. You may return your Angel Tree gift to any of our participating Angel Tree sites or any participating Walmart or Sam's Club location.

Yes, simply let your local Angel Tree contact know that you would like to be an Angel Tree site, but that you do not want to be listed on the website as a drop off location. This is an option on the sign up form as well.

The Angel Tree Toy Drive campaign in West Michigan corresponds with WOOD TV8’s viewing area. However, your local Salvation Army likely runs its own program that you can participate in.   If you live in Michigan, search your zip code to find your .

It is completely free to host an Angel Tree at your location. The only resources you will need to provide is your own tree to display the Angel Tree tags, as well as transportation for dropping off the gifts that you receive at our designated Angel Tree drop-off locations.

Yes. In order to keep our costs low and allow us to serve more children, we ask each Angel Tree Site to provide their own Christmas Tree. Please do not worry if you do not have a tree to put up. We simply ask you to be creative in finding a way to display the tags and collect toys! In the past, Angel Tree Sites have created paper Christmas Trees, displayed tags on bulletin boards, and collected toys in boxes wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper. Let your imagination take over!

Every year we order extra tags, because we know that not every tag will be adopted. So, if you have extra tags on your tree at the end of the drive, it doesn’t mean that a child will go without a gift. Return the tags to us or keep them to use next year.

Please contact your local Angel Tree contact to request more tags. In the meantime, you can still collect gifts for Angel Tree without tags. Once your new tags arrive, you can match up the gifts with the tags you receive.

The Salvation Army is made up of many Corps Community Centers, that each focus on serving the needs of a community. The Angel Tree program is run by a different Salvation Army Corps Community Center in each county. Every community has different needs, and your local Salvation Army works within your community to determine the best way possible to meet that community’s needs.

Last year our Angel Tree served over 20,000 children across West Michigan. Our goal is to serve 25,000 children this year.

Angel Tree gifts are given to children, infants through 16 years old, whose families are in need of extra assistance around the Holidays. Each county has their own sign up process and qualification guidelines. 

Toy distribution varies by county, depending on the needs of the local community and other participating community partners. In  Kent County, The Salvation Army holds a Christmas distribution in December where gifts and food vouchers are provided to each family assisted.
